Summary

These work together with the end goal to turn data from different data sources into visual reports and provide new insights. It is possible to use almost any data source in combination with Power BI with the help of connectors, which makes it easy to extract data whether it is from an Excel spreadsheet or a cloud-based data warehouse. When the data is accessible in Power BI it is time to transform data, discover what is important and then build reports. These interactive reports can then be easily shared with anyone you want.

As mentioned above, Power BI consists of three elements that work together. Power BI Desktop is a windows desktop application, where you typically start the development of an app. By creating different datasets, reports, and dashboards. These are then published to Power BI Service, an online software service. This is where other business users can access the reports and dashboards in the form of workspaces and apps. In Power BI Service it is also possible to adjust apps and personalize views. Power BI Mobile is utilized to share information and certain reports on the go. Together these apps are designed to enable the creation, sharing, and consumption of business insights effectively throughout an organization.
